I'm unsure whether I'm more engrossed by Kelly Potter's character or the incredible description of the backdrop for her story. Binge reading has not been so enjoyable for some time. Thank you, Rachel Lynch.

This being the third book in the series, the supporting characters (Kelly's co-workers) are finally distinguishing themselves in my mind. In the previous books it was hard to remember who was who.

Kelly is a competent detective, but she's really insecure in other areas of her life. Some random girl from high school (which was 20+ years prior) runs into Kelly in the grocery store, and in the midst of a two minute conversation tells Kelly that she's stuck up. Kelly takes this to heart and starts to rethink her whole life, believing she doesn't fit in anywhere. Very much a contrast to how she presents herself at her job. There's a lot of family drama in Kelly's life, and Kelly being at odds with her sister kind of stalled the progress of the book. Kelly's sister Nikki has PTSD from the events that took place in the last book. But there aren't any chapters from Nikki's POV, so she just comes across as a b****. And Kelly comes across as thoughtless where her sister is concerned. Thankfully, the sister drama isn't dwelled on too much.

The case is a good one: two missing girls, similar to a missing girl from months ago, and a man in his 90's who commits suicide. Seemingly unrelated, but they become intertwined. There are several suspects for the villain, but I had the right one pegged immediately. As with the previous books, the Lake District is a character all on its own, and I love the setting of this series. The ending felt a little rushed, I would have liked a little more insight into the villain and the why of everything.
